Hodgson Update, October 2016

Dear Friends and Family,

Greetings from Mbeya. As I sit to write this update, I am horrified to see how long it has been since the last email update. Life has been a veritable maelstrom of guests, travel, and projects since May, so I hope I can catch you up on things in this email.

Most of the last summer was busy with guests coming and going, and trips to Sumbawanga. I had several meetings with the church leadership, and we had several opportunities to visit and encourage our colleagues in Mumba and the Rukwa Valley. In early July we welcomed Gabriel and Hannah Wilson to Tanzania. They are currently in language school in Iringa, please pray for them as they study Swahili language and culture.

In September, we welcomed recent Grace Bible College graduate Ellie Ratter into our family for three months. Ellie agreed to come to Mbeya to teach Naomi and Elijah and to give Kim the opportunity to work on some other projects. Kim was also able to take a trip to Israel for 12 days with Lynn Caraway, Brook Seekins, and her friend Audrey. They had an amazing time at a ladies’ retreat on the Sea of Galilee, followed by 5 days staying in the old city of Jerusalem for some sightseeing. We are thankful to the Lord for this amazing opportunity for Kim and for the blessing it was to her.

We recently were able to take a day trip with Ellie to Katavi National Park in western Tanzania. We enjoyed many of God’s wondrous creation in the form of plants, animals, and unique geography. It was exciting for Kim and me to witness Ellie seeing these things for the first time.

Work with the correspondence course and prison ministries is moving forward. I am getting many new prisoners who are completing the introductory lesson, which clearly explains salvation by grace through faith alone. It was encouraging recently to hear that several inmates in the local prison who were sentenced to death for their crimes were able to complete the same lesson and hear the gospel!

Thank you for your consistent prayers and support!

In His Service,

Cory Hodgson
